The son of the famous ex-couple Sonny Bono and Cher talked about his coming out process in two books – Family Outing: A Guide to the Coming Out Process for Gays, Lesbians, and Their Families and The End of Innocence. In 2008, Bono started his transition from female to male, and in May 2010 he legally changed his gender and name. A documentary about his life was screened at the Sundance Film Festival in 2011. Since then, Chaz has appeared in TV series such as The Bold and the Beautiful and American Horror Story, just to mention a few.

Ian Harvie

This American stand-up comedian and actor often used his transgenderness as the subject of his performances. He is known for his role in TV show Transparent. Last year, he was a part of a filmed letter in which trans actors and actresses asked for more and better roles for transgender people who are looking to succeed in the movie industry.

Richard O’Brien

British actor O’Brien is well known for writing The Rocky Horror Show and has also appeared in the film version as Riff Raff. Although this is a list of transgender actors, O’Brien managed to find his way to it since he identified himself as the third gender back in the days. He claims that he views himself as 70% male and 30% female. Last year, O’Brien got caught in the middle of a controversy for saying that transgender women were not real women.

Riley Carter Millington

One more actor on our list who transitioned from female to male. He is known as the first transgender person to portray a trans character in a British soap opera. His role as Kyle Slater in the soap opera East Enders brought him fame, and The Independent named him the most influential LGBTI person in the UK and stated that his role could help other trans people and even save lives. Last year he appeared in TLC’s Celebrity Fat Fighters series.
